Obscura
Title: Obscura
Project: Final Year Project, Glasgow School of Art
Location: Glasgow, UK
Timescale: September 2022 - May 2023
My final year project was Obscura, a multifunctional film space and hidden cinema in the centre of Glasgow. Taking inspiration from visual environments within film, I created a concept for a space inspiring growth and connection. The project was comprised of three key spaces - the North and South Rotundas and the Tunnel which connects them below the Clyde.
The North Rotunda took inspiration from the representation of ‘home’ on film, and became a welcoming social space with cafe-bar and film museum.
The North Rotunda also served as the entrance to the Tunnel - an ever-changing, immersive experience and the route to the South Rotunda. As part of my final project, I created a short film using physical models and digital animation, exploring the tunnel journey as an immersive horror experience.
The South Rotunda, inspired by futuristic worlds featured in films of the past, consists of a large cinema, snack bar and personal film screening booths.
