Horniman Museum & Gardens
Title: Nature and Love
Client: Horniman Museum and Gardens
Location: London, UK
Timescale: October 2023 - Present (project ongoing from May 2022)
This permanent exhibition for the Horniman Museum consists of three key spaces: The Natural History Gallery (split across two floors), the under-5s Nature Discovery Den and the Gardens. The exhibition centres on the natural world, with a focus on providing an interactive and engaging experience for all visitors.
I joined this project during the developed design stage, creating case drawings of hundreds of centuries-old exhibition cases, and modelling over 1,000 objects for case dressing. I have worked on this project from the beginning of my time at Studio MB, creating and updating much of the technical design package and the full case dressing pack.
The case dressing I carried out for this project included creating 3D models of over 1,000 objects and around 100 cases, attending regular workshops with the client team, curators, mount makers and case contractors, and generating case dressing drawings for all case layouts. This has also involved creating matrix documents which allowed the client and our own team to better organise and communicate information on case layouts.
During the technical design and delivery stages of this project, I have worked alongside the rest of the graphics team to set up and artwork case labels and graphic texture panels throughout the gallery. I have ensured coordination of information with client and contractors, creating schedules to capture information and using InDesign to set up and refine the details of each label.
